Start Coding in 60 Minutes

Each Tech Club class runs about an hour and introduces core programming concepts through mini projects.

Sessions are hosted across San Diego County in partnership with schools, libraries, recreation centers, and community organizations. Volunteer mentors from the League guide learners through projects, debug code side by side, and share next steps for students who want to keep going.

New families can drop into a single meetup while returning members weave Tech Club events into their weekly schedule. All classes are free with optional donations supporting hardware, classroom space, and instructor training.

Topics We Cover

  • Python: Students explore Python through Turtle graphics before moving into core concepts like variables, loops, and functions. Every class ends with a working program.
  • Java: Java introduces professional tools such as GitHub and VS Code while laying the groundwork for AP Computer Science and robotics programming.
  • Microcontrollers: Micro:bit microcontrollers let students experiment with sensors, lights, and wireless communication using blocks, Python, or JavaScript.
  • JavaScript: JavaScript sessions mirror our Java classes but use a simplified browser-based editor so that newcomers can focus on logic and problem solving.
