šŸ¤–Build Your First Robot Brain - Intro to Raspberry Pi

This event is tailored to students in grades 6-12. A Github account is necessary to participate.

Give your student a head start in tech! In this free, beginner-friendly class, kids will get hands-on with Raspberry Pi, the mini computer used in classrooms and maker spaces worldwide. In just one hour, students will:

  • Discover what a Raspberry Pi is and how it powers real robots
  • Write their first Python program that simulates how a robot "thinks"
  • Build confidence with coding in a fun, low-pressure environment

What they'll create: Students will write a simple program that makes decisions like a real robot. They'll test their code by typing in different scenarios—like "obstacle" or "clear path"—and watch the robot respond with decisions like "turning left" or "moving forward." It's a first look at the logic that drives autonomous robots, and they'll see it react in real time to their inputs.

In-person session. Computers and Raspberry Pis provided.

This class is part of a series introducing students to robotics fundamentals, perfect for students interested in joining an FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) robotics team. Getting comfortable with coding and hardware early gives students a real advantage when competition season begins.

Bring your own computer if you prefer - you will need to be logged into a Github account.
