🤖Robot Drivers: Your First Coding Mission

This Event is Tailored to kids in grades 8-12

What if your child could tell a robot exactly what to do, and watch it follow their commands? In this hands-on introductory workshop, students will step into the world of robotics and programming using FTC SIM, a free game-based simulator developed by FIRST Robotics Canada.

What They'll Learn: Students will control a virtual robot using keyboard commands and program it with drag-and-drop block coding to move, turn, and navigate through challenges. No prior coding experience needed, just curiosity and a willingness to problem-solve. By the end of the hour, every student will have completed their first robot mission. Why This Matters: Learning to code builds more than tech skills. It strengthens logical thinking, persistence, and creativity. Students learn to break big problems into smaller steps, test their ideas, and iterate when things don't work the first time, skills that transfer far beyond the screen.

What to Expect:

  • Guided instruction with time for hands-on exploration
  • A fun puzzle challenge to apply what they've learned
  • A supportive environment where mistakes are part of the process

What to Bring: Just your student! We'll provide computers. You are welcome to bring your computer as well. Learn more about FTC SIM: https://ftcsim.org
