Robot Garage Apprentice

Robot Garage Apprentices work closely with instructors on their own builds while helping us explore what projects and lessons work best for future students.

Course Overview

The Robot Garage Apprentice program is an invitation-only mentorship within League Labs. Apprentices work in our fully equipped electronics lab on their own robotics and electronics projects, but they also help us develop and pilot new curriculum. Sometimes that means testing a lesson plan for a motor control workshop, sometimes it means exploring a new microcontroller platform to see if it’s a good fit for younger students, and sometimes it means pursuing a passion project with close instructor guidance.

This program is a lot like an internship. Apprentices work very closely with the instructor and are expected to be self-directed, curious builders who can also give thoughtful feedback on what worked and what didn’t. The work apprentices do directly shapes what we teach in our community programs.

Robot Garage Apprentice is free, but it is invitation-only. The primary way we recruit is through our Robot Garage Projects open build days — students who attend Projects Day and demonstrate initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to help others are the ones we invite into the Apprentice program.
